Every child and every parent is a superhero in their own way. Sometimes our powers are loud, sometimes they are quiet but they are always there, waiting to be unlocked.
The Speech Heroes is a world where imagination meets real-life challenges. Inspired by our own journey as a family, we created songs, stories and characters that give children with speech and language delays a voice.
Here, every adventure is about courage, connection, and finding ways to be heard. Whether you are a parent, teacher, speech and language therapist, professional, or young reader, you are part of this superhero team.
We're the Kaushal family — Rishi, Priya, and Aryan — a family on a mission to raise awareness about speech and language delays in children.
Our journey began when Aryan, now five years old, was diagnosed with a speech and language delay. Like many families, we faced the worry and uncertainty of navigating a world not always built to understand children who communicate differently.
With limited support available rather than feeling alone, we chose to turn our experience into something creative and hopeful. In the winter of 2024 with Rishi's imagination, Priya's steady support, and Aryan's determination, The Speech Heroes were born!
A world of story, song, and superheroes built on empathy and expression.
Priya has been a constant source of encouragement behind the scenes, and care to every step of the journey. Rishi, a creative advocate and runner who has long raised awareness on issues like domestic abuse and homelessness, now uses his energy to spotlight the importance of communication for all children.
Our hope is that The Speech Heroes brings comfort to families like ours and reminds every child that their voice, in whatever form, is powerful.
Rishi, Priya, and Aryan
Every child with a speech and language delay battles with these villains on a daily basis. But with the right support, every child can be a Speech Hero!
Aryan is a boy with a big imagination and a lot to say. Sometimes the words take longer to come out, and that can be hard. But Aryan has learned that there are many ways to communicate; through signs, actions, drawings, and sounds. Every time he faces a challenge, he keeps going. That is his superpower.
Rishi is Aryan's dad and biggest supporter. He listens, encourages, and celebrates every achievement, no matter how small. He has learned to be patient and creative, finding different ways to help Aryan express himself.
Mysterious, sneaky, and strong, the Word Stoppers live inside the mind, where they try to stop communication in its tracks. But every villain has a weakness...
Explodes emotions like a volcano. He covers everything in hot lava when things feel overwhelming.
Calm breathing and emotional tools can cool him down.
Zooms around shouting. Makes children feel rushed and anxious.
Patience and pacing stop him in his tracks.
Makes voices disappear.
Eye contact, connection, and confidence.
Spins thoughts and words into dizzy circles.
Visuals, signs, and support tools bring focus and clarity.
They show that Speech and Language delays do not define who you are. With understanding, creativity, and support, every child can grow in confidence and find their own voice.
Get the BookLast year something clicked for Aryan after his first term at school where he had been learning phonics; he discovered a love for music, rhythm, and even beatboxing.
One evening in their living room, Rishi noticed that Aryan connected to music and enjoyed singing, he turned to Priya and said, "It's time to make a song." She looked at him like, "What are you on about?".
What started as a wild idea slowly spiralled into something real. With no prior music experience, Rishi and Aryan took several weeks to write lyrics for the song, continuing to practice each night until it was perfect. They then recorded the track using a kids' headset, a rode mic, and basic recording software. They poured their hearts into every take.
From there, they dreamed even bigger; creating a full script for a children's music video with absolutely zero budget. Every scene was built from imagination, determination, and the belief that a message about speech and language delay could be powerful, fun, and full of heart.
This song reflects Aryan's struggles and Rishi's encouragement as a father. It was released on World Voice Day along with a heartwarming children's video.
As part of this project, they launched a fundraiser for Speech and Language UK, setting out to raise £5,000 to support the 2 million children in the UK affected by Speech and Language delays (1 in 5 children).
It has become a rallying call for awareness, inclusion, and creative expression for all children who find it hard to be heard.
